[Chicago] Marx’s Capital After 150 Years–Multilinear Paths to Revolution

Monday, April 24, 2017
6:30 – 8:30 pM
719 S. State St., 4th Floor
Chicago, IL
Speaker: Kevin B. Anderson, author of Marx at the Margins: Nationalism, Ethnicity, and Non-Western Societies and coeditor of The Rosa Luxemburg Reader

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the publication of Marx’s Capital, which remains the best theoretical foundation for understanding and uprooting capitalism. In recent years, opposition to the unbridled rule of capital has come to the fore in various ways, from Occupy to the Sanders campaign, and from anarchism to the environmental movement. Far too often, however, these forms of opposition tend to target neoliberalism rather than capitalism itself.  This meeting will open up a discussion of how Marx’s Capital goes deeper by grasping both the actual nature and “law of motion” of capitalism and what it would mean to overcome it.
