Focusing on several regions of the world, this book examines the possibilities – and realities – of positive, humanist change and revolution that have burst forth in the first decades of this century. If we are to view in a truly dialectical fashion the fascist danger and the oppressive character of liberal capitalism, not least in the Trumpist electoral victory and Israel’s US-backed genocidal war on Gaza, it is important to examine events also in terms of real struggles for human emancipation. What are the lessons for today of these kinds of struggles over the past 15 years, as seen in the Arab revolutions, the upheavals in Iran, the recent struggles in France over labor, racism, and antifascism, or so many others? This book offers attempts at a dialectical analysis of ongoing events from a Marxist and humanist perspective.
