Los Angeles CANCELED – Erich Fromm’s Socialist Humanism: An Answer to Rightwing Authoritarianism and Fascism

THE EVENT IS CANCELED. If you are interested in participating online in our next public meeting, date and topic TBA, please let us know by sending an email to [email protected]

40 years on from his death, Erich Fromm’s Socialist Humanism speaks to us today perhaps more than ever. A unique thinker within the wider “Frankfurt School” orbit, Fromm was central to the development of the authoritarian studies tradition, marrying this analysis with a capacious form of socialist humanism that reached and affected millions. The history of Fromm’s socialist and anti-authoritarian engagement will be traced in this talk (including his views on the Israel-Palestine conflict), along with his pathbreaking form of dialectically materialist psychoanalysis.

With introductory remarks by Professor Lilia D. Monzo on “Humanism in Our Everyday Lives.”

Dr. Kieran Durkin, our special guest speaker, is the author of THE RADICAL HUMANISM OF ERICH FROMM and is a visiting scholar at UCSB.

Professor Lilia D. Monzo of Chapman University is the author of A REVOLUTIONARY SUBJECT: PEDAGOGY OF WOMEN OF COLOR AND INDIGENEITY
