Los Angeles Marxism, Humanism, and Revolution in Africa— Yesterday and Today + critical update on Sanders campaign

Meeting will begin with a brief report by George Aquino on the Sanders campaign in Iowa, based upon firsthand experience.

Speakers:

Ndindi Kitonga, radical educator and activist

Kevin B. Anderson, scholar activist

As part of LA’s celebration of Black History Month, this meeting will explore African revolutionary struggles and humanism, from the 1950s to today. The presentations will emphasize the global impact of African struggles, including on the U.S. in general and the Black movement in particular.  The jumping off point for the two talks is Kitonga’s article, “Anti-Colonialism and Humanism” https://newpol.org/issue_post/anti-colonialism-and-humanism/ and Anderson’s “Sudan’s Revolution of 2019: At the Crossroads of Africa and the Arab World” https://newpol.org/issue_post/sudans-revolution-of-2019/ both of which have just been published in the Winter 2020 issue of NEW POLITICS: AN INDEPENDENT SOCIALIST JOURNAL https://newpol.org/issues/new-politics-vol-xvii-no-4-whole-number-68/ and in IMHO Journal.

Ndindi Kitonga is a Kenyan-American revolutionary educator and a long-time organizer and activist in Los Angeles who has written on revolutionary critical pedagogy and democratic education.

Kevin B. Anderson’s is a sociology professor at UCSB and the author of MARX AT THE MARGINS: ON NATIONALISM, ETHNICITY, AND NON-WESTERN SOCIETIES and of LENIN, HEGEL, AND WESTERN MARXISM.
