Chicago A Tale of Two South Americas – Chile and Bolivia

Two contrary developments emerged in South America at the end of 2019—the coup against the progressive regime of Evo Morales, and the emergence of a massive freedom movement against austerity and oligarchy in Chile. Which will determine the course of South American politics in 2020?

Peter Hudis will discuss the ongoing developments in Bolivia, based on his article in the IMHO Journal (https://imhojournal.org/articles/counterrevolution-in-bolivia-its-roots-and-result).

Edward Tapia will focus on the demands of the general strike in Chile and forms of social relations that have arisen, such as the cabilos, based on his article in New Politics (https://newpol.org/a-growing-national-strike-against-neoliberalism-in-chile).
