[Los Angeles] Public Reading Group on “Rosa Luxemburg, Women’s Liberation, and Marx’s Philosophy of Revolution”

Continuing on Sunday, April 18, 2021 6-8:00 PM, Los Angeles Time

This session will take up chapter 9, “Marx Discovers a New Continent of Thought and of Revolution” from Raya Dunayevskaya’s classic book, “Rosa Luxemburg, Women’s Liberation, and Marx’s Philosophy of Revolution.” We will be discussing the last sections of the chapter, “Prometheus Bound, 1841-43” and “Prometheus Unbound, 1844-48” (pp. 122-132). These pages take up the quest for freedom, what it means to be a “practicing revolutionary philosopher,” Marx’s “recreation of the Hegelian dialectic,” and his 1844 Humanist Essays as a “breaking point” that defined the rest of his life.

With introductory remarks by Andres Miguel Marmol, longtime Chicanx, community, and Marxist activist
