Where: ABF, Spånehusvägen 47, 211 58 Malmö, Sweden

Content
Kevin B. Anderson, professor of sociology at University of California Santa Barbara and a member of the International Marxist-Humanist Organization, has intensely studied especially Marx’s late writings and found that Marx’s critique of capital was far broader than usually supposed. In Marx at the Margins, Anderson discusses and analyses Marx’s writings on race and ethnicity and argues that Marx never separated these questions from his critique of capital.

Instead, Anderson finds that in his late writings, Marx sketches out three types of revolutionary change, each of them different from the united working class uprising that forms the conclusion of the first volume of Capital. Important as that rigorously dialectical, though abstract model is, it does not deal with race, colonialism, gender, the state, or other concrete factors discussed in some of his later, largely unpublished, writings.

Taken together, these late writings seem to sketch out an alternative to capitalism that is a non-statist form of free and associated labor. Thus, an alternative that goes far beyond the more centralist and statist notions put forward in the Communist Manifesto. What relevance these ideas has for an analysis of capitalism today will be the underlying question guiding this talk. Join us and take the opportunity to form an own answer on that question.
