SPEAKERS: Charlie Mountain, Lilia D. Monzo, Â Tony Saidy & Nathan Fisher
We will begin with CHARLIE MOUNTAIN, a radical feminist and environmentalist, who will speak briefly on lessons from our feminist foremothers
Then LILIA D. MONZO will discuss at greater length Marx’s critique of gender and the family and link this to the life and work of Russian revolutionary feminist Alexandra Kollontai. Monzo will argue that for women to unite toward liberation we need a pedagogy of revolutionary sisterhood in terms of both theory and practice. She teaches at Chapman University, where she uses Marxist-Humanist and decolonial approaches to confront capitalism and imperialism, racism, and the hyper-exploitation of women of color, while envisioning a socialist alternative. She has published numerous book chapters, academic journal articles, and in the alternative press, TRUTHOUT.
Followed by novelist TONY SAIDY’S brief preview of his screenplay on Kollontai, “Reds Two.”
Finally, NATHAN FISHER will speak at greater length on the connection of feminist thought on biological reproduction and the body to social reproduction and the body politic. He is a convener of the Los Angeles Jacobin Reading Group and a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.
