Dr. Nissim-Sabat will discuss and analyze ‘identity politics’, politics based on exclusive claims by identity groups that their issues demand unilateral attention and remedy. She will present a Marxist-Humanist alternative to understanding the value and role of identity groups  in the struggle for total liberation. Writings by Raya Dunayevskaya will be covered:

  • “New Passions and New Forces: The Black Dimension, the Anti-Vietnam War Youth, Rank-and-File Labor, Women’s Liberation,” in Philosophy and Revolution
  • “Marx’s and Engel’s Studies Contrasted: Relationship of Philosophy and Revolution to Women’s Liberation” in Women’s Liberation and the Dialectics of Revolution
