[Chicago] A Marx for Our Times: Reflections on the Second Edition of Marx at the Margins

Date: April 4, 2016
Time: 6 — 8:30 p.m.
Address: 111 North Wabash Ave, Suite 909 (Chicago Loop)

Presenter: Kevin Anderson, co-editor with Peter Hudis of Raya Dunayevskaya’s The Power of Negativity and the Rosa Luxemburg Reader, and author of  Foucault and the Iranian Revolution (with Janet Afary) and Lenin, Hegel, and Western Marxism.

Too often nowadays, it is said that Marx contributed to our understanding of capital and class and of how to abolish them both, but that he had little to say on race, nationalism, or colonialism.  In fact, from his writings on race, class, and revolution during the U.S. Civil War to those in his last years on indigenous communities in non-Western societies as sites of resistance to capital, his dialectic was truly global and multicultural.

The just-published expanded edition of Marx at the Margins deepens these themes and connects them to the dialectics of revolution. Copies will be available for signing.
