Is there an Alternative to Imperialism and Fundamentalism?

Monday, September 6, at 6:30 pm (CST):

The U.S.’s disastrous exit from Afghanistan is the culmination of a 20-year disastrous invasion and occupation in which the U.S. poured immense resources into a corrupt Afghan government and military which collapsed like a house of cards shortly after Biden announced his troop withdrawal. What can those opposed to imperialism and the religious fundamentalism of the Taliban do to support Afghans who oppose both of these reactionary tendencies? As Fariha, a feminist activist in Kabul recently stated, “We cannot breathe if we are deprived of our rights to education and work, and if we are not present in our society.”

Opening the discussion: Rehmah Sufi & Peter Hudis

Suggesting readings: 1) “Solidarity with Afghan People Begins with Not legitimizing the Taliban” by F. Afary; 2) “Who is Buried in the Graveyard of Empires?” by G. Achar; and 3) “U.S. Debacle in Afghanistan” by J. Corazon.
