Hunger in Gaza

Hamid Vahed

Summary: On the looming famine — Editors

A Palestinian child in Gaza was small

He could easily get lost in the hustle and bustle of the hungry crowd trying to get food

People were holding their pots and shouting

When a hungry person shouts, he doesn’t know what to say

A voice comes out of his throat

The child was about to suffocate. A woman rescued him from under the arms and legs, the pots, and the commotion

When he reached the front of the line, the food was gone

The child looked at the large pots empty of food

He couldn’t believe it

He went into the pot with his head and started scratching the bottom of the pot with his small, dirty nails

But nothing came out

There was only the sound of the nails scratching and the metal
